Workforce Development (YWD)
Our workforce programs aim to create viable pathways to career exposure for high school age youth and sustainable employment for transitional age youth. Each of our programs was created to ensure that San Francisco youth are provided with the resources and opportunities required to reach their full potential.
Roadmap to Readiness (R2R)
In cooperation with June Jordan School for Equity and Leadership high schools, Employment Specialist, Christian Ribeiro has created a thriving internship program that culminates in paid experiential learning at the OMIE Beacon. Once students have completed half a semester of in class professional preparation, they are invited to complete an apprenticeship in one of the following categories:
• Production and artistic design in Studio 181
• After school support with James Denman Middle School students
• Culinary training (with an emphasis on food justice) at June Jordan high school through the Urban Sprouts program.
Students receive a stipend of $599 at the end of their apprenticeship. They are invited back the following semester as interns with the objective of teaching incoming apprentices how to perform their new role. Students receive another $599 stipend at the end of their internship.
Roots of Success (ROS)
Roots of Success is an empowering educational program that prepares youth and young adults for environmental careers. This particular program serves primarily youth from the District 11 community. The ROS curriculum strengthens academic and professional skills, increases environmental literacy, focuses on 125 green career opportunities. Participants receive stipends of $600 after successful completion of ten weeks of training, college credit when applicable, and a Certificate of Completion nationally recognized by over 127 Green Industry employers. ROS caters to youth, ages 14-24. Graduates of ROS receive assistance in obtaining internships or employment.
Empowerment to Employment (E2E)
E2E serves youth between the ages of 18-24 from all over San Francisco, focusing on neighborhoods with high youth unemployment. E2E provides six weeks of paid, comprehensive professional development and skills training, followed by subsidized employment placement for a minimum of 300 hours.
